The final song recorded by late country star Merle Haggard has been released. Premiered on SiriusXM’s Willie’s Roadhouse channel today, “Kern River Blues” was recorded two months before Haggard’s death and features his son Ben on guitar. According to a description on Haggard’s website, the song is about his “memories of leaving Bakersfield in the late Seventies” and features a number of feisty lines aimed at politicians. The track is available for download on merlehaggard.com and iTunes, with 10 percent of gross proceeds going to homeless charities.
